Tool teardown · free + paid tier

Todoist for ADHD: the fastest capture, and the same old list.

Natural language capture in one keystroke, every platform, reminders included. As a catcher of thoughts it is excellent. As a closer of loops it is still a list — organizing and revisiting are on you.

What it does

Type "call dentist tue 3pm" and Todoist parses it into a dated task. Filters, labels, recurring tasks, and reminders give it real power. The free tier covers everyday use; Pro is $7/mo or $60/yr.

Where it helps

  • Capture friction is near zero — a task can be in the system in two seconds.
  • Cross-platform: desktop, phone, Gmail, Slack, wherever the thought lands.
  • Recurring chores stop being remembered-tasks.

Where it stops

  • The list is passive: nothing follows up, nothing notices silence.
  • Overdue items accumulate and the red counters start talking to you, which is the guilt loop again.
  • Organizing (projects, labels, priorities) is maintenance that quietly becomes a second job.

The verdict

Keep it as a capture layer if it works for you. The piece Todoist (and every list) is missing is closure: someone who notices the task did not happen and re-opens the loop without judgment. Capture solves half. Closure is the other half.
